Fees and Scholarships
Course Fees
Tuition fees are calculated according to your enrolled workload (i.e. the number of credit points in which you are enrolled, not the number of credit points you succesfully complete.) Some postgraduate coursework programs incur a tuition fee payable upfront to the University. Australian citizens and permanent humantarian visa holders are eligible for FEE-HELP and can obtain a FEE-HELP loan to pay all or part of their tuition fee. For those postgraduate coursework programs that have Commonwealth Supported Places, Australian citizens and permanent humanitarian visa holders are eligible for HECS-HELP assistance and can obtain a HECS-HELP loan to pay all or part of their student contribution.

Fee Sponsorship Vouchers or Authorities
Students who are sponsored for tuition fees or their student contribution must submit a voucher, authority or official documentary evidence of sponsorship to the Fees Office when they enrol. Enrolment without such sponsorship authority will be assessed for fees which must be paid by the due date shown on the Tax Invoice. Students who pay fees will receive a refund if they subsequently submit a sponsorship authority by the Census date for their units of enrolment.
Please note, that even if a student is sponsored, ultimate responsibility for the payment of all fees rests with the student. Students may be excluded if a sponsor does not pay the student's fees on time.

International students will be given information on fees due and details of arrangements for payment of fees at enrolment. Please refer to Macquarie International for further information.
Higher Study Scholarship
The Macquarie University Higher Study Scholarship is designed to support recipients to continue their studies to a Postgraduate Coursework or Honours level. This scholarship is not intended for students undertaking research courses. The scholarship generously rewards students who have demonstrated academic excellence but it also has an equally strong commitment to equity. Tthe scholarship is valued at up to $9016 per annum for the normal duration of an applicant’s program of study.
To be eligible, an applicant must be an Australian citizen or the holder of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa and be able to demonstrate financial hardship. Applicants must also be studying or intending to study full-time at the Honours or postgraduate coursework level in a Commonwealth Supported place or tuition fee place (domestic students only). Applicants can further enhance their eligibility by including information relating to any of the following: capacity to triumph over hardship; Indigenous background; carer responsibilities; geographic disadvantage; Non English speaking background; long term medical condition or on going effects of abuse. Academic merit will also be considered.
Applications for this scholarship for Session 1 2011 are closed. Applictions for Session 2 2011 will open in early May.

FEE-HELP
FEE-HELP is a loan to assist eligible fee paying students pay their tuition fees.
Australian citizens and permanent humanitarian visa holders are eligible for FEE-HELP assistance and can pay their tuition fee in one of three ways:
- Full up-front payment;
- Partial up-front payment and obtain a FEE-HELP loan for the remainder; or
- Obtain a FEE-HELP loan for the full amount.
Permanent humanitarian visa holders must reside in Australia for the duration of the course (unless otherwise required by the course) to access FEE-HELP assistance.

HECS-HELP
HECS-HELP is a scheme to assist eligible Commonweatlh Supported students pay their student contribution. There are two types of HECS-HELP assistance: the HECS-HELP discount and the HECS-HELP loan;
Australian citizens and permanent humanitarian visa holders are eligible for HECS-HELP assistance and can pay their student contribution in one of three ways:
- Full up-front payment and receive a 20% HECS-HELP discount;
- Partial up-front payment (20% discount on amounts of $500 or more) and obtain a HECS-HELP loan for the remainder; or
- Obtain a HECS-HELP loan for the full amount.
Permanent humanitarian visa holders must reside in Australia for the duration of the course (unless otherwise required by the course) to access HECS-HELP assistance.
New Zealand citizens and other permanent visa holders are not eligible for HECS-HELP assistance and must pay their student contribution up-front without a discount. For further information about HECS-HELP refer to the HECS-HELP website.
